Public Assistance - Medicaid

Benefit: To provide medical and health insurance coverage

Target Population: Lower income families with children and very low-income seniors or those receiving Social Security Disability benefits.

* Income limits are show by number of persons in household and based on Federal Poverty Levels and updated every January.

Eligibility for Seniors and Disabled

Income Limits 2007*

  • 1 $851 monthly
    2 $1141 monthly

Resources:  Resource maximum is $4000. Houses used as personal residence are exempt and no lien is placed on the property.

Citizenship:  Must be citizen or documented alien in the United States for 5 years

Documents needed: Proof of income, proof of resources, proof of Social Security number, proof of identification and residence. Other documents may be required.

Where to apply:  Atlantic County Office Building, 1333 Atlantic Avenue, 3rd floor, Atlantic City NJ, 8:30 – 4:00. No online applications available.

Health Insurance: Adults and children may have other health insurance and be eligible

Other eligibility:

  • Some disregards may be applied. If income is close to maximum, consider applying.
  • Adults without children are not eligible
  • “Parents” can be any adults that are the primary caregivers for children regardless of relationship to the child.

If applying for Food Stamps and want to apply for Medicaid Plan A in addition, to apply in person:
