The One Stop Career Center offer many types of free job training based on a variety of eligibility requirements.  Eligibility information is provided at a System Orientation.

1. How can I get FREE job training/Am I eligible?
Household income is only one eligibility factor. Customers who are laid off due to lack of work may be considered automatically income eligible (regardless of their household’s actual income) if certain conditions are met.

In Atlantic County, attend a System Orientation on ANY Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at 9 am or 11 am. On the first floor of the Pleasantville Office. No appointment is necessary. Plan to spend about two hours at the center.

In Cape May County, call (609) 729-2234 to schedule an appointment at the Wildwood Office.

2. What are the amounts of the grants?
There are federal grants up to $5000 and State of New Jersey grants up to $4000.  A recipient can not get both grants but either grant may be used in addition to Pell Grants and/or Stafford Loans offered by the training providers.  Grants are paid directly to the approved New Jersey Training Providers which are listed on www.wnjpin.net.  Other non-monetary training opportunities include Tuition Free Waivers at Public Colleges where participants simply pay for books, materials, and fees.

3. Will I be able to understand and successfully complete a particular training course?
The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is used as an evaluation measurement tool. There is no pass or fail on this evaluation procedure. The purpose of this evaluation is to identify your Grade Level Equivalency (GLE). Each vocational training course has a minimum GLE as a pre-requisite for student enrollment. This activity is FREE.

In Atlantic County, the TABE TEST will be scheduled during your System Orientation or by calling 813-3922. The activity begins at 8:30 am and lasts to about 1:00 pm in the Pleasantville Office.   If you find that you need to increase your GLE, you may be able to attend our FREE education services. The TABE TEST is offered in the Atlantic City Office on Wednesdays and appointments may be made by calling 345-6700.

In Cape May County, the activity is held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. in the Wildwood Office.  Call (609) 729-0997 to schedule an appointment. If you find that you need to increase your GLE, you may be able to attend our FREE education services.

4. Will I enjoy a particular job?
The System for Assessment and Group Evaluation (SAGE) is used as a measurement tool to assess aptitude and interest. The purpose is to identify the vocations that can be matched against your training and/or employment goals. This activity is FREE.

In Atlantic County, the SAGE will be scheduled by appointment in the Pleasantville Office. Call 813-3922 to schedule an appointment.

6. Can I take college credit classes tuition FREE if I qualify?
The Tuition Waiver Program is available at all NJ Public Colleges and makes unfilled seats available to qualified One Stop participants. Classes must lead towards employment in a labor demand field in your county. The tuition will be waived and eligible participants simply pay for books, materials, and fees.

In Atlantic County, eligibility will be explained in the System Orientation on ANY Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at 9am or 11am on the first floor of the One Stop in the Pleasantville Office. No appointment is necessary. Plan to spend about two hours at the center.

In Cape May County, please call (609) 729-2234 to schedule an appointment in the Wildwood Office to determine your eligibility.

7. How can I get a FREE 2.1 Gaming License?
If you obtain a Promise of Employment from a casino complete with your name, position, and hourly rate, you may be eligible to be sponsored for a 2.1 Gaming License.  Once you complete AND notarize your 2.1 Gaming License Disclosure Form, you may call 609-485-0052 ext. 186 to set an eligibility appointment for this program.

8.  Are there any other programs specifically for women and minorities?
Yes,  the NJ BUILD program provides an average of $4000 for the training of women and minorities in the heavy equipment and construction trades at approved New Jersey training providers.  Eligibility will be explained in the System Orientation on ANY Wednesday at 9am, 10am, or 11am on the first floor of the One Stop. No appointment is necessary. Plan to spend about two hours at the center.
