On an annual basis a Request for Proposals (RFP) is advertised in the local newspapers and online. At that time, school districts and community organizations may apply and complete the RFP process for funding. Please note that WIA programs have income and other eligibility requirements. The program is designed to prepare disabled students at the special services school, age 14-21, for a successful transition from school to work. The community college partners with Oakcrest High School to train 20 youth enrolled at the high school for careers in the sales and service industry through the Institute for Service Excellence. Youth, when eligible will have the opportunity to take the National Retail Federation (NRF) certification exam, earn a National Work Readiness Credential or a NRF credential for Professional Customer Service or Professional Sales. All youth will attain a secondary school diploma and participate in basic skills remediation, work readiness activities and job shadowing and work experiences. The program is designed to increase the basic literacy, workplace readiness skills, and employment opportunities for special education classified youth, age 14-21, enrolled at the Cape May County High School. Students will receive basic skills instruction, social skills training, life skills training, individual counseling, workplace readiness skills, community based job shadowing opportunities, and support services. Cape May County Schools for Special Services - Cape Educational Compact - The program is designed to assist at-risk, disaffected youth who are enrolled at the Cape Educational COMPACT alternative high school to continue their education and obtain employment skills and work experience. The program is designed to assist classified Absegami High School students, age 14-18, transition from school to the world of work. Participating students will receive basic skills instruction, pre-employment/work readiness skills, adult mentoring, counseling, and follow up services. Mainland Regional High School - Visit Mainland's website This program plans to target 20 youth with disabilities and/or economically disadvantaged students enrolled at the high school. Participants will participate in basic skills remediation, work readiness, study and occupational skills training. All youth will participate in job shadowing and work experiences with local business partner to transfer classroom instruction to the world of work. PRN will target 20 at-risk, out-of-school youth with an interest in becoming Certified Nursing Assistants. All youth will be required to complete a 140 hour CNA training course in conjunction with work readiness, job shadowing and basic skills activities. Participants will be required to exceed the competency skills required for state certification. |
